- The Birth Of...
Nematosys were first created in February of 1999 when guitarist Dil discovered his instrument...and also decided he wanted to play guitar as well. He was then aged 14. The band has existed in one shape or another since then, but things only started to get interesting in Autumn 2001...
- The Line-Up
The line-up of Nematosys, as it is today, has been in place since September of 2001. At this time, the band consisted of 5 members: a prodigal drummer, Pete, aged 14, an amazing bassist, Matt, aged 16, an excellent singer with a very distinctive voice, Myk, aged 16, the latest addition to the line-up, guitarist Ju, aged 17 and the founder of the band, guitarist Dil, aged 16.
- Battle of the Bands, 2001
From here, they started by entering the covers section of a local Battle of the Bands contest. Playing various crowd-pleasers from Green Day, Feeder, The Undertones and Blur. This simple combination of a young, up-and-coming band, playing good songs to an exceedingly high standard, was enough to earn them second place out of 8 or 9 older bands in their heat, with ultimately more experience than themselves...
- Discovering Themselves
After this gig, local semi-professional band "The Indigo Sunrise" spotted Nematosys’ flair for performing and invited them to support The Indigo Sunrise in some of their gigs in the area. This proved an amazing experience for the band, and inspired them to start producing their own material. So in March 2002, the band performed their own material for the first time ever to a room heaving with 250 or so unsuspecting victims... The response was amazing. The band made enough money that evening to be able to record their first CD; The Fool EP.
- Free CDs
Nematosys then went on to headline a local rock event one month later in which they give away 200 copies of their CD at the end of their performance. All 200 copies were snatched up in about 30 seconds, leaving the band with just 2 or 3 copies to share between themselves...!
- London
In January of 2003, Nematosys took 50 people on a big pink bus into deepest, darkest Islington, London for a gig at The Garage. It turned out to be a fantastic gig and the crowd were all very enthusiastic, which was great. The gig itself was organised by a promotional company called Northern Xposure. These guys organise gigs all over the country (mainly in the North) for unsigned bands.
- Miffstock
This was a much raved about gig and it turned out to be pretty huge! The place was packed out (as it had been over the other 2 days of this 3 day event) and £3500 was raised for charity as a result. This was one of many gigs played at The Extra Time Bar in Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre.
- Summer 2003
Autumn is getting well underway as I write. Nematosys took this as an opportunity for a cheesey photo shoot in the woods ,with all the nice colours in the background. Preparations are also taking place for the upcoming Battle of the Bands competition in Horsham, which has entailed a very thorough practising regime. By the end of this year, we should also have a brand new CD from the band.
- The Future
- Things are looking positive for the band. They have some high-profile gigs on the horizon and have also recruited a couple of promoters/manager to ensure that they can get as many gigs and reach the largest audience as they possibly can.
